Unicoi Turnpike
Portions of the Unicoi Turnpike are used as boundary lines in the Cherokee land cession of 1817 and by 1819 the entire turnpike had been ceded. James Wyly moves west with the boundary, selling his land near the Tugaloo River. He would own various boarding houses and inns along the road he built, the most famous being Travelers Rest, now a North Georgia State Park. Gold! |
